Amazon’s massive cloud outage has been resolved after causing widespread internet disruptions worldwide.

Amazon announced that a massive outage affecting its cloud computing service has been fully resolved as of Monday evening, following a global disruption that took numerous online platforms offline. The outage impacted a wide range of services — including social media, gaming, food delivery, streaming, and financial platforms — causing widespread frustration among users worldwide.

The day-long disruption highlighted how modern society has become deeply dependent on a handful of tech giants for the infrastructure that powers much of the internet — systems that appear seamless until they suddenly fail.

According to Amazon Web Services (AWS), recovery efforts began about three hours after the outage started early Monday morning, with full restoration achieved by 6 p.m. Eastern Time. Updates were provided through the company’s AWS Health Dashboard, which tracks such incidents.

AWS supplies cloud infrastructure to many of the world’s largest organizations, including government agencies, universities, and major corporations such as The Associated Press.

Cybersecurity expert Mike Chapple described the recovery as “slow and bumpy, but entirely normal” for an outage of this magnitude.
