
Microsoft’s latest 2025 Work Trend Index reveals that Indian companies are rapidly preparing for an AI-driven future of work, with a majority planning to integrate artificial intelligence into daily operations. According to the report, 93% of Indian business leaders expect to deploy AI agents to support employees within the next 12–18 months.
The study highlights that many firms are already reworking operations for human–AI collaboration. About 59% of leaders said their organizations are using AI agents to automate tasks across teams and processes. Microsoft identifies these organizations as “frontier firms,” setting the pace in AI adoption.
Indian executives are also signaling broader shifts in strategy. Nearly 90% of leaders said 2025 is a crucial year to rethink business models, the highest figure globally. Around 64% are prioritizing productivity gains through AI, while most confirmed plans to use digital agents to expand workforce capacity in the near term.
Emerging AI Roles and Skills
New positions are being created to support this transition. 92% of leaders said their companies are considering AI-focused roles like workflow designers and software operators. More than half expect to deploy multi-agent systems to manage complex business functions. To prepare, companies are investing heavily in training—51% of executives named upskilling as their top focus for the next year, and 63% of managers expect AI training to become a core team responsibility within five years.
India’s AI Readiness
The report also shows strong readiness in India, with two-thirds of employees and 80% of leaders already familiar with AI agents—underscoring a workforce prepared to embrace AI as a partner in productivity.
Global Context
Globally, Microsoft reported record adoption of its Copilot applications, now serving over 100 million monthly active users—the fastest uptake in Microsoft 365 history. Across its products, 800 million people use AI-powered features every month, and in the last quarter alone, customers created over 1 million custom AI agents using Copilot Studio.
Microsoft concludes that Indian businesses are no longer just experimenting with AI but are scaling its use across operations—laying the foundation for a truly AI-driven workplace model.
